The Nigeria Police Force has taken a bold step toward modernising its operations and cutting fuel costs with the launch of a green energy fleet, following the donation of three specialised buses by the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPF-TF) and the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles (PI-CNG & EV).
The handover ceremony, held on April 21, 2026, marked the official commencement of the Force’s transition to cleaner and more cost-effective energy solutions.

Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja.
The event attracted top officials from both partner organisations, including Executive Secretary of the NPF-TF, Mohammad Sheidu, and Chief Executive Officer of PI-CNG & EV, Barrister Ismail Ahmed, alongside other senior dignitaries.

Leaders of the two organisations said the donation was only the first phase of a broader intervention aimed at transforming the Nigeria Police operational fleet.
They announced plans to convert existing police vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), a move expected to significantly reduce operational fuel expenses and lower the environmental footprint of police activities nationwide.

They also pledged support for intensive capacity-building programmes to ensure sustainability and smooth adoption of the new technology.
Responding, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, expressed appreciation to the NPF-TF and PI-CNG & EV for what he described as visionary support to the Force.
He said the shift to CNG and electric vehicles was a strategic necessity that would align the Nigeria Police with global best practices in logistics management, operational efficiency and environmental responsibility.

The IGP assured that the newly donated buses would be deployed to improve personnel welfare and mobility, adding that plans were underway to establish internal vehicle conversion centres to enable the Force independently maintain and upgrade its fleet.
The ceremony ended with the formal presentation of vehicle keys and an inspection tour of the buses, symbolising a new chapter in the Nigeria Police Force’s drive for modern, efficient and eco-friendly policing.
