The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspected masterminds behind the killing of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
Kiyawa said the arrests were made following intelligence-driven investigations ordered by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
He explained that the operation was carried out under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended during a carefully coordinated sting operation that lasted several hours overnight.
Kiyawa identified the suspects as Umar Auwalu, Isyaku Yakubu, also known as “Chebe,” and Yakubu Abdulaziz, popularly called “Wawo.”
He disclosed that Umar Auwalu, alleged to be the leader of the group, is a close relative of the deceased woman.
“The suspect confessed to his involvement in the crime and admitted that the group had been involved in similar attacks in the past,” Kiyawa stated.

The police spokesman said several exhibits were recovered from the suspects, including mobile phones, suspected weapons and other items linked to the crime.
He added that investigations are ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspects’ criminal network.
Kiyawa praised the officers involved in the operation for their commitment and swift response.
He also thanked members of the public for their prayers, cooperation and support during the investigation.
The police spokesman assured residents that the Command would ensure that justice is served.
“The Kano State Police Command remains resolute in its commitment to safeguarding lives and property,” Kiyawa said.
