The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has hosted a state banquet in honour of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, following his appointment as the 23rd indigenous IGP.
The event, held at the Lagos House, Marina, brought together government officials, security stakeholders and members of the public to celebrate the police chief.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid.
Sanwo-Olu described Disu as a product of Lagos whose policing career was shaped within the state, particularly during his time as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad.

“His record speaks to discipline, professionalism and commitment to service,” the governor said, adding that the honour reflects the state’s confidence in his leadership.
He expressed optimism that Disu would strengthen professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force and improve public trust in policing.
In his response, the Inspector-General thanked the government and people of Lagos, describing the event as a homecoming.
“This reception means a lot to me because Lagos played a major role in shaping my career,” Disu said. “It also reinforces my commitment to serve with integrity and dedication.”
He reiterated his commitment to improving professionalism, restoring trust and strengthening community policing across the country.
Disu also stressed the need for collaboration between the police, government and other stakeholders, including the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.
“Security is a shared responsibility,” he said. “We must all work together to ensure safety and stability.”
