Teacher on the Run After Allegedly Flogging 12-Year-Old Pupil to Death in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a teacher accused of flogging a 12-year-old pupil to death at a school in Adazi-Ani, Anaocha Local Government Area of the state.
The Command said its Safe School Initiative operatives, led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, ACP Harrison Oruruo, have been mobilised to track down the fleeing suspect and unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the incident was reported to the Neni Divisional Police Headquarters on the evening of July 16, 2026.
Ikenga disclosed that police operatives responded immediately and rushed the victim to a hospital, where doctors confirmed the boy dead while receiving treatment.
”The body has been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy. Preliminary observations revealed visible marks of violence on different parts of the deceased’s body,” he said.
He added that photographs of the deceased had been taken while investigators had commenced a full-scale probe into the incident.
The police spokesperson assured the bereaved family and members of the public that the investigation would be thorough, diligent and transparent, stressing that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
Ikenga said the Command remained committed to protecting pupils through its Safe School Initiative and appealed to residents with useful information on the whereabouts of the fleeing teacher to report to the nearest police station or contact the Command’s emergency line.
