Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have successfully repelled an attack by suspected ISWAP terrorists on the Forward Operating Base in Magumeri, Borno State, killing scores of insurgents and recovering weapons during a fierce gun battle.
The attack, which occurred in the early hours of May 7, 2026, targeted the Forward Operating Base under Sector 3 of Operation HADIN KAI.
In a statement signed by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Sani Uba, the terrorists attempted to infiltrate the military location under poor visibility conditions.

According to the statement, although the attackers achieved minor breaches within an isolated section of the camp, troops responded swiftly and decisively, containing and defeating the assault.
Uba stated that troops fought gallantly and neutralised scores of the terrorists during the encounter.
The military spokesman disclosed that subsequent exploitation operations around the area revealed extensive blood trails, dragged bodies, and recovered corpses of terrorists, confirming heavy casualties inflicted on the attackers.
According to the statement, troops also recovered a large cache of weapons and ammunition abandoned by fleeing terrorists.
Items recovered, according to Uba, included PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, AK-47 rifles, and several magazines.

The statement, however, noted that two soldiers lost their lives during the encounter while an officer and other wounded personnel were currently receiving medical treatment and were in stable condition.
According to Uba, some military equipment and temporary structures were also damaged by fire during the intense exchange of gunfire.
The spokesman stated that troops are currently conducting further exploitation operations within the general area to consolidate gains from the successful operation and ascertain additional battle damage assessment.

The military authorities said the failed attack further demonstrated the resilience and fighting spirit of troops of Operation HADIN KAI in denying terrorists freedom of action across the North East theatre.

According to the statement, the Military High Command commended the troops for their bravery and professionalism and urged them to sustain the current operational momentum against terrorist groups operating within the region.
