As criminal activities increasingly migrate into the digital space, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Training and Development, AIG Uche Ifeanyi Henry, has stressed the urgent need for intelligence-led policing, data gathering and technology-driven security systems to stay ahead of emerging threats.
Speaking as the keynote speaker at the Enugu State Government’s Training of Security Personnel on Data Gathering and Cybersecurity themed “Building Smarter, Safer and Secure Communities,” AIG Uche said modern policing must evolve beyond conventional methods to effectively tackle today’s security realities.

The programme brought together officers of the Nigeria Police Force as resource persons alongside participants from various security agencies to strengthen capacity in intelligence gathering, digital policing and the deployment of technology in addressing emerging security challenges.
Speaking after a guided tour of the Enugu State Command and Control Centre at the close of the training, the senior police officer observed that criminal operations have become increasingly technology-driven, making digital tools and modern security infrastructure indispensable for effective crime prevention and investigation.

AIG Uche further noted that under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IG Olatunji Disu, the Nigeria Police Force continues to deepen smart policing initiatives through technology integration, intelligence gathering and data-driven operations aimed at improving public safety.
He also commended Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and the Enugu State Government for prioritising security innovation, describing Enugu as a practical model of how strategic investment in technology and coordinated response systems can strengthen public security and create a safer environment for residents and visitors.

The training underscored the growing importance of collaboration, innovation and digital transformation in building smarter, safer and more secure communities.
