The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Headquarters, AIG Olohundare Jimoh Moshood, on Friday 24 April 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command (WNC), Rear Admiral AA Mustapha, at the Headquarters of the Command in Apapa, Lagos.
AIG Moshood in his remarks noted that the evolving nature of security threats, particularly in coastal and littoral environments, underscores the need for sustained cooperation among security agencies. He emphasized that effective policing and maritime security require intelligence sharing, joint operations and mutual support to ensure the safety of lives and property.

The AIG further highlighted the need for closer collaboration in tackling crimes such as cultism, illegal drug trafficking land grabbing and other organized crimes. He commended the Western Naval Command for its continued efforts in safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime domain and maintaining relative stability within the region.
In his response, the FOC, Rear Admiral AA Mustapha, appreciated the visit and described it as timely and strategic. He congratulated the AIG on his recent appointment, attributing it to his sheer hard work, professionalism and vast experience in policing. The FOC also formally welcomed him to the Western Naval Command on behalf of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas.

Rear Admiral Mustapha highlighted the importance of inter-agency cooperation in tackling contemporary security challenges, noting that no single agency can effectively address such threats in isolation. He further noted with pride that Nigeria has been delisted from the list of piracy-prone nations, attributing the achievement to the sustained efforts of the Nigerian Navy and other maritime security agencies in securing the nation’s waters.
The FOC also assured the AIG of the Command’s readiness to continue working closely with the Nigeria Police Force through intelligence sharing, joint patrols and coordinated operations, particularly within Lagos and Ogun States which fall under Zone 2.

Admiral Mustapha further reiterated the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to maintaining a secure maritime environment in support of national economic activities, adding that enhanced collaboration with other security agencies remains a key pillar in achieving this mandate.
The visit featured discussions on areas of mutual interest, as well as the exchange of souvenirs, symbolizing the enduring partnership between both organisations.

The visit was aimed at strengthening inter-agency collaboration and enhancing synergy between Zone 2 Command of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Navy in addressing security challenges within their areas of responsibility. It also marks another step towards strengthening the existing relationship between the Nigerian Navy and the Nigeria Police Force towards promoting peace, security and stability within the region.
