In a powerful demonstration of empathy-driven policing, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Anambra State have saved the life of a man who collapsed along a major roadway in Awada during Easter patrol operations.
The incident occurred at about 5pm on April 4, 2026, along the Onitsha/Owerri Road, where officers attached to the Awada Division encountered the unidentified victim lying helpless by the roadside.
Acting swiftly, the operatives evacuated the man to a nearby hospital, ensuring he received immediate medical attention — a response that proved critical in stabilising his condition.
Preliminary medical indications suggest that the victim may have suffered a sudden health emergency, possibly linked to high blood pressure, though further assessment is ongoing.
The intervention highlights the evolving role of the police as not only enforcers of law and order but also first responders in emergency situations.
Commending the officers, the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, emphasised that policing must be rooted in humanity and compassion.

“Policing goes beyond crime prevention to include humanitarian services and the protection of lives,” he said, reinforcing the Command’s commitment to community-oriented policing.
The Anambra State Police Command reassured residents of its readiness to continue safeguarding lives and property, particularly during festive periods when public movement increases and emergencies may arise.
