The Anambra State Police Command has taken four suspects into custody over separate allegations of murder and severe child abuse, attributing the breakthroughs to timely intelligence and vigilance by residents who alerted security agencies to the disturbing incidents.
The Command said the arrests followed public cooperation and information-sharing that helped expose criminal activities in different parts of the state, including a trending case involving the alleged exhumation of a corpse in Nkpor and another involving the abuse of a 10-year-old boy.
According to the Police, the first suspect, Ifechukwu Okechukwu ‘M’, aged 33 years, is currently under investigation over the alleged murder and secret burial of his 23-year-old girlfriend.
The case, Police said, came to light after credible information was received from concerned members of the public, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
Operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department have since taken over the matter and commenced detailed investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure justice is served.
In a separate incident, the Command confirmed the arrest of three other suspects over the alleged abuse of a 10-year-old boy in Odume Layout, Isiowulu.
Those in custody were identified as Chukwudi Chukwuyere ‘M’, aged 40 years; Chisom Chukwuyere ‘F’, aged 30 years; and Arum Goodluck ‘M’, aged 16 years.
Police disclosed that their arrest followed allegations that the child sustained serious injuries across his body.
During interrogation, Mrs Chisom reportedly confessed to using burning plastic to inflict burns on the victim.
The Police further stated that the child has been provided with necessary care and support, while investigators continue gathering evidence to support prosecution.
Reacting to the developments, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, enforcing the law and ensuring offenders are brought to justice.
He also urged members of the public to sustain support for the Police and other security agencies by reporting suspicious activities and criminal conduct through the Command’s emergency lines and the nearest Police Station.
