The Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) has described the death of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Khan Salihu as a devastating loss to the Nigeria Police Force and Nigeria’s wider security architecture, lamenting that a promising career destined for higher leadership has been cut short.
In a condolence statement issued on Monday, Olalekan Olabulo, President of the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) expressed deep shock and sadness over the passing of the senior police officer, who until his death served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration at the Lagos State Police Command.
The association portrayed the late DCP Salihu as an exceptional officer whose reputation for discipline, administrative excellence and unwavering commitment to service earned him admiration across the Force and among security stakeholders.
According to CRAN, Salihu stood out as a calm but firm administrator whose contributions strengthened internal systems, improved financial administration and enhanced operational effectiveness within the Lagos State Police Command.
The association noted that beyond his official responsibilities, the late officer maintained a cordial and professional relationship with crime reporters and remained accessible, cooperative and supportive of responsible journalism.
CRAN further stated that DCP Salihu represented a generation of police leadership defined by competence, integrity and strategic thinking, adding that many had anticipated his eventual rise to the rank of Commissioner of Police and beyond.
The body said his death has created a difficult vacuum within the Force and ended what it described as a career filled with immense promise and greater responsibilities.
