The Lagos State Police Command has inaugurated a special tactical security outfit known as the “Command Sweepers Squad” to address rising criminal activities in Ikorodu and adjoining communities.
The initiative, launched under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, followed growing concerns and complaints by residents over insecurity in parts of the axis.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, the squad is a temporary intervention outfit created to combat crime and restore public confidence in the affected areas.

The statement explained that the squad comprises personnel drawn from the Command Tactical Teams, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Eko Strike Force, 2 Police Mobile Force (PMF), 22 PMF and 63 PMF, alongside officers from sister security agencies and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
The command disclosed that the security outfit has been strategically stationed in Ijede to ensure rapid deployment and effective coverage of Ikorodu and neighbouring communities.
To enhance operational effectiveness, the squad has also been equipped with patrol vehicles and three Armoured Personnel Carriers recently donated to the Lagos State Police Command by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF).

The police said the operatives had already been deployed to identified black spots and criminal hideouts to conduct intelligence-led operations, raids, stop-and-search duties and confidence-building patrols.
The command assured residents that the operation would be carried out professionally and in line with the rule of law.
It also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information.

Residents were advised to contact the police through the command’s emergency lines whenever necessary.
