The Ogun State Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in the investigation into the gruesome murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, with the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of the deceased’s stolen vehicle through technical tracking and forensic investigation.
Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, disclosed this during a press briefing held at the Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, revealing that one of the suspects confessed to orchestrating the attack to allegedly “teach her a lesson.”
According to the Police Commissioner, the investigation commenced following a report received at Owode-Egba Police Station on June 21, 2026, concerning suspicious activities at the residence of Madam Oyesiku.
Police operatives who responded to the distress call discovered signs of forced entry at the residence. Upon gaining access, they found the lifeless body of Pelumi Adetayo (38) inside the security house, while Madam Olakitan Oyesiku was discovered in a pool of blood within the living room of the main residence.
CP Ojajuni stated that detectives immediately processed the scene scientifically and established that the deceased’s Lexus RX 330 had been removed from the compound, prompting the Command to launch a coordinated operation involving intelligence gathering, technical tracking, and forensic investigation.
The breakthrough came barely 24 hours later when operatives successfully traced and recovered the missing vehicle at Onikolobo area of Ogun State. Investigators found that the ignition key had been removed and registration plates detached; however, officers recovered the concealed number plate from underneath one of the seats, enabling positive identification of the vehicle.
In what the Command described as a significant forensic lead, detectives also recovered a handwritten note allegedly left behind at the scene. The document was subjected to forensic examination, generating intelligence that proved crucial in identifying and tracking the suspects.
The investigation subsequently led to the arrest of the principal suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip (22), on June 24, 2026, at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was reportedly working as a labourer.
Further coordinated operations resulted in the arrest of Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola (27), a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho (36), a bricklayer, bringing into custody all identified suspects linked to the alleged conspiracy.
During interrogation, police said Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip made a confessional statement admitting involvement in the murder and disclosed that he recruited the two other suspects to participate in the operation.
According to the Commissioner, the suspect told investigators that the attack stemmed from grievances developed during the period he served as a security guard under the deceased’s employment and claimed the objective was to “teach her a lesson.”
Police further revealed that the suspects allegedly carried out the attack on Saturday, June 20, 2026, first overpowering Pelumi Adetayo to gain entry into the residence before attacking Madam Olakitan Oyesiku. The security guard was later also killed before the suspects fled with the victim’s vehicle.
Following the confessional statements, detectives conducted additional searches linked to the suspects and recovered exhibits including a broken hammer, cutlass, plank, black pen and other materials considered relevant to the investigation.
While noting that substantial evidence had been gathered, CP Ojajuni stressed that all suspects remain entitled to due process under the law and assured that investigations would continue to ensure diligent prosecution.
“The Command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served and that all persons connected with this heinous crime are brought to book,” the Police Commissioner stated.
