Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have neutralised two suspected kidnappers and rescued an abducted victim unharmed in a major breakthrough in the Command’s anti-kidnapping operations.
According to DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, the operation also led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun, an expended cartridge, a mobile phone and N2.2 million suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.
Babaseyi said the victim was abducted on June 11, 2026, at Ogbe Village in Ogun State, prompting the immediate deployment of intelligence and tactical assets by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
He explained that through sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance and operational pressure on the kidnappers, the victim was safely released on June 18.
The police spokesman stated that operatives subsequently intensified efforts to track down members of the gang responsible for the abduction.
Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives reportedly traced the suspects to their hideout within the state.
”On sighting the operatives, the suspects opened fire in a desperate attempt to resist arrest and escape. The operatives responded professionally, leading to a gun duel during which two of the suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while other members of the gang fled the scene with gunshot injuries,” Babaseyi said.
He disclosed that a search of one of the neutralised suspects led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun, while further examination of the scene yielded an expended cartridge, a mobile phone and N2.2 million in cash.
According to him, investigations are ongoing while efforts have been intensified to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.
Commending the operatives for their bravery and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, said the operation underscored the Command’s commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
Ojajuni assured residents that the police would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing and robust tactical operations to safeguard lives and property.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely and credible information capable of aiding crime-fighting efforts.
The Commissioner reiterated that Ogun State would remain hostile to criminal elements and reaffirmed the Command’s determination to sustain its crackdown on kidnappers and other violent offenders.
