The Police Service Commission (PSC) has moved to strengthen transparency, accountability, and leadership capacity in Nigeria’s public sector, forging a new alliance with the Chartered Institute of Directors (CIoD) Nigeria aimed at entrenching global best practices in corporate governance.
The development was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday by the Commission’s spokesman, Torty Njoku Kalu, who said the partnership emerged from a high-level engagement between both institutions in Abuja.
The PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (Rtd), received a delegation from CIoD led by its Second Vice President, Alhaji Lamis S. Dikko, F.CIoD, at the Solomon Arase Conference Hall, the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters, where both parties explored avenues for sustained collaboration.
Discussions at the meeting centred on deepening institutional ties, promoting governance advocacy, and advancing capacity development initiatives tailored at improving leadership effectiveness within the public sector.

Argungu underscored the alignment between CIoD’s mandate and the Commission’s reform agenda, noting that the PSC is committed to transitioning from traditional civil service models to a more dynamic, corporate-driven governance framework.
He emphasized that the collaboration would prioritise the training and development of both executive and non-executive directors within the Commission, equipping them with modern leadership competencies required for optimal service delivery.
“We look forward to a continuous and better working relationship,” the PSC Chairman stated, expressing confidence that the partnership would yield measurable improvements in institutional performance.
