The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed as misleading a viral video circulating online showing the arrest of some Fulani men allegedly caught with arms and ammunition in Ikorodu.
Police said the footage was from an incident that happened over three years ago and should not be presented as a recent development.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, warned that sharing old security-related videos as fresh incidents could trigger panic and unnecessary tension among residents.
“The video currently circulating does not reflect the current security situation in Ikorodu or any part of Lagos State,” the statement said.
The Command urged residents to disregard the video and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing fear or undermining public peace.
Police also warned social media users and content creators against disseminating fake or alarmist content, noting that offenders would be investigated and prosecuted according to the law.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Tijani Fatai, has directed increased deployment of officers and operational assets to black spots, strategic locations, and entry and exit points across the state.
The Command said the security measures are being carried out in collaboration with other security agencies to ensure safety across Lagos.
Residents were encouraged to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible information on suspicious movements and activities in their communities.
